I am thine O save me Lord

Title:

A Prayer for Salvation

Primary Text:

MS Wellesley, 141-2.

Secondary Ed:

1988 Ellis d'Alessandro prints Wellesley text, 172-3; McGovern & Hinnant, 135-6.

Comment:

It is subscribed "Sept 23, 1716, a Sunday evenings performance uncorrected" written in a sort of doggerel (7 syllabic line with 4 stresses variously positioned); awkward forced quality ("Be my shield and my Reward"). Perhaps this one needed more "correction."
