Hark! sure I hear Urania play

Title:

On Easter Day

Primary Text:

MS's: F-H 283, 10-13; Folger, 203-4

Secondary Ed:

1903 Reynolds prints Folger text, 220.

17C:

1696 Tate, 82-4.

Comment:

Urania in Anne's words is also "the Heavenly Muse, and supos'd to inspire Thoughts of Virtue." It opens with an allusion to Mary of Modena so this is another apparently religious lyric whose subtext is Jacobite. Mary of Modena would have played a musical instrument.
