Sometimes my emotions overwhelm me,

Sometimes my emotions overwhelm me,
fed by belief and eager hope, in my
mind roused, bold, I hear wings, my heart, beating,
and enter a space only love perceives.

Into this place the mind withdraws, becomes
identified with God whose courage and
goodness strengthens the illumined mind to
see His footprints, hear His voice, feel His help

as one wanders blindly in this world's maze:
and if one draws from His well one drop of
genuine kindness, sweet, rare from that vast

ocean, it is beyond all tongues to say
how this gift saves those drowning in this world's
bitter waters. What follows is silence.
