Epigram on James II deserted, betrayed by friends? One of a pair or a variant on another later printed by Pope. See When Caesar fell, he brav'd each killing wound", Annotated Chronology No. 32. They are all Jacobite poems and present the disloyalty with which James II was confronted as treacherous, shameful, heart-breaking.
