Title:

The Fall of Caesar. By the honourable Mrs. Finch.

Primary Text:

No MS; 1717 Pope's Own*; rpt 1935/75 Ault, 165.
WHEN Caesar fell, he brav'd each killing wound,
And awfull lay Dictator on the ground:
But when a Friend, or something nearer thought,
Impos'd a stab, who should relief have brought;
The dying hero hid his gen'rous face,
Where blushes rose in scorn of human race.
